This is an example brief. Its company, dates, budget, assignment and progress illustrate a project; they do not represent available or commissioned work. Proposals cannot be submitted.

The brief

The work and the intended result

The internal PCB and connector positions are frozen. We need a three-piece folded enclosure with one removable cover, straightforward cable access and no custom tooling. The assignment includes four part drawings, one assembly drawing and one supplier-feedback revision. Thermal simulation, ingress testing, hardware manufacture and product certification are excluded. All panels must be removable in the agreed assembly sequence without disturbing the sensor mounting.

What you’ll deliver

  • A complete enclosure assembly around the supplied electronics envelope
  • Four sheet-metal part drawings with flat patterns and bend notes
  • One assembly drawing, fastener list and cover-removal sequence
  • A revised drawing pack incorporating one round of fabricator comments

Expertise needed

  • Practical folded-sheet design and fastening experience
  • Ability to check tool clearance and connector access in the supplied CAD assembly
  • Availability for a short fit-review meeting in Toronto
  • Sheet metal
  • SolidWorks
  • Design for manufacture
  • Assembly design

A running start

What’s already in place

  • PCB and connector STEP models with keep-out zones
  • Preferred material thicknesses and a fabricator capability sheet
  • Overall size limits and a list of service-access tasks

Project milestones

From brief to handover
  1. 01

    Confirm the enclosure envelope

Completed: agreed the part split, connector cut-outs and service-access sequence.

  2. 02

    Prepare manufacturing drawings

Current: detail the folded parts and check bend clearances against the fabricator capability sheet.

  3. 03

    Close the fabrication review

Resolve the agreed comments and verify that flat patterns, part drawings and assembly references match.

Working together

A shared definition of done

Confirm the deliverables, review checks and response window together so everyone knows what a successful handover looks like.

Suggested acceptance criteria

  • Every agreed deliverable is included in the handover, in the agreed file formats.
  • Assumptions, limitations and open questions are documented alongside the work.
  • The project owner reviews the work against the brief and returns one consolidated feedback list before approval.

When the scope changes

Record the requested change, its reason and its effect on deliverables, budget and timing. Both parties agree the revised scope in writing before the additional work begins.
