The brief

The work and the intended result

We are considering a small raised platform for lightweight component storage. The study compares two support arrangements using the supplied survey and indicative loading schedule. It includes preliminary member sizing, one arrangement model and a list of checks needed before detailed design. Ground investigation, verification of existing foundations, permit submissions and construction-ready calculations are excluded. The decision we need is which arrangement deserves further investigation, not approval to build.

What you’ll deliver

  • A design-basis note identifying supplied dimensions, loads and unverified assumptions
  • Two concept arrangements with indicative member sizes and access constraints
  • One coordinated concept model and two layout drawings
  • A short comparison report and a prioritised site-information request

Expertise needed

  • Experience with early-stage steel framing studies and existing-building constraints
  • Able to separate concept findings from matters requiring local investigation
  • Availability for one site walk-through and a concept review in Cape Town
  • Structural analysis
  • Steel design
  • BIM
  • Revit

A running start

What’s already in place

  • A measured workshop plan and photographs of the proposed platform area
  • An indicative storage-load schedule and access requirements
  • A facilities contact and the available existing-building drawings

Project milestones

From brief to handover
  1. 01

    Agree the study assumptions

Completed: reviewed the survey, mapped missing foundation information and agreed the two layouts to compare.

  2. 02

    Compare the framing options

Current: finish preliminary sizing and coordinate the preferred layout with workshop access.

  3. 03

    Prepare the next-stage decision

Deliver both options with traceable load assumptions and a clear list of investigations required before detailed design.

Working together

A shared definition of done

Confirm the deliverables, review checks and response window together so everyone knows what a successful handover looks like.

Suggested acceptance criteria

  • Every agreed deliverable is included in the handover, in the agreed file formats.
  • Assumptions, limitations and open questions are documented alongside the work.
  • The project owner reviews the work against the brief and returns one consolidated feedback list before approval.

When the scope changes

Record the requested change, its reason and its effect on deliverables, budget and timing. Both parties agree the revised scope in writing before the additional work begins.
