The brief

The work and the intended result

Our civil designer has an initial drainage model for a small light-industrial site. We need a second pair of eyes on areas, runoff inputs, levels and model connectivity before progressing the design. The review covers eight catchments, twelve pipe links and three agreed sensitivity runs. Deliver an issue register and a short review meeting. New survey work, redesign of the network and any consent or compliance opinion are outside scope.

What you’ll deliver

  • A checked input register for eight catchments and twelve pipe links
  • An annotated connectivity and level-consistency review
  • Three sensitivity runs with a comparison of the selected output measures
  • A prioritised findings report distinguishing corrections from further investigations

Expertise needed

  • Experience inspecting small drainage models and tracing inputs to drawings
  • Ability to reproduce a supplied baseline before changing assumptions
  • Clear explanation of model limitations and missing survey evidence
  • Civil design
  • Hydraulic modelling
  • Technical review
  • Data validation

A running start

What’s already in place

  • The editable baseline model and its exported calculation results
  • Catchment drawings, survey levels and the current input schedule
  • The three sensitivity ranges and a named civil designer for questions

Project milestones

To shape together
  1. 01

    Reproduce the baseline

Open the supplied model and match its reported baseline before beginning the independent input review.

  2. 02

    Check inputs and sensitivities

Trace the catchments and pipe links to source drawings and run the three agreed variations.

  3. 03

    Discuss the findings

Provide reproducible run files and point each issue to the specific model element and supporting input.

To agree before starting

A shared definition of done

Confirm the deliverables, review checks and response window together so everyone knows what a successful handover looks like.

Suggested acceptance criteria

  • Every agreed deliverable is included in the handover, in the agreed file formats.
  • Assumptions, limitations and open questions are documented alongside the work.
  • The project owner reviews the work against the brief and returns one consolidated feedback list before approval.

When the scope changes

Record the requested change, its reason and its effect on deliverables, budget and timing. Both parties agree the revised scope in writing before the additional work begins.
