The brief

The work and the intended result

Our four-layer board carries a microcontroller, two analogue sensors and a wired communication interface. We need a focused review of six schematic sheets and the supplied layout before ordering a small prototype batch. Review power paths, connector pinouts, decoupling placement and the analogue signal routing. This is a document review with one clarification call; layout edits, EMC testing, firmware and fabrication approval are excluded.

What you’ll deliver

  • Annotated schematic and layout captures with numbered observations
  • A prioritised list of issues, questions and optional improvements
  • A first-power-up checklist covering the specified supply rails
  • One 45-minute technical review of the findings

Expertise needed

  • Experience reviewing mixed analogue and digital low-voltage boards
  • Ability to distinguish a confirmed inconsistency from a point needing measurement
  • Comfortable reviewing the supplied native files and exported manufacturing views
  • PCB design
  • Embedded systems
  • Electrical design
  • Design review

A running start

What’s already in place

  • Six schematic sheets, native layout and stack-up information
  • Component datasheets and intended sensor operating ranges
  • Connector pinout table and the planned bench power supply

Project milestones

From brief to handover
  1. 01

    Inspect the source package

Completed: matched the schematic and layout revisions and confirmed the review boundary.

  2. 02

    Resolve the main observations

Current: check power distribution and connector mappings, then consolidate layout questions.

  3. 03

    Hand over the review

Ensure every issue points to a component or net and walk through the proposed first-power-up checks.

Working together

A shared definition of done

Confirm the deliverables, review checks and response window together so everyone knows what a successful handover looks like.

Suggested acceptance criteria

  • Every agreed deliverable is included in the handover, in the agreed file formats.
  • Assumptions, limitations and open questions are documented alongside the work.
  • The project owner reviews the work against the brief and returns one consolidated feedback list before approval.

When the scope changes

Record the requested change, its reason and its effect on deliverables, budget and timing. Both parties agree the revised scope in writing before the additional work begins.
